Ebola Zaire Vaccine Live Brand Name– ERVEBO
What is Ebola Zaire Vaccine Live
Ebola Zaire vaccine live is a live, recombinant vaccine indicated for the prevention of disease caused by Zaire ebolavirus in adults.
Ebola virus disease (EVD) is contagious and transmitted through direct contact with blood, body fluids, and tissues of infected wild animals or people, as well as with surfaces and material, such as bedding and clothing contaminated with these fluids.
Symptoms of EVD include fever, fatigue, muscle pain, headache, and sore throat. Symptom onset can be sudden, and the virus is often deadly.
Cases of EVD are very low in the United States (U.S.) and are usually the result of infections acquired while individuals are in other countries who then travel back to the U.S.
Although Ebola is not common in the U.S., the U.S. government is committed to fighting Ebola outbreaks in Africa; the approval of this vaccine helps to fight Ebola in close coordination with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and the World Health Organization.
The efficacy of the Ebola Zaire vaccine, live was tested in an open-label randomized cluster (ring) vaccination study during the 2014 Ebola outbreak in the Republic of Guinea.
Patients were randomized to receive an “immediate” vaccination (n = 2,108) or a 21-day “delayed” vaccination (n = 1,429). Vaccine efficacy was 100%; no cases of confirmed EVD were observed in the immediate vaccination clusters, and 10 confirmed cases of EVD were observed in a total of 4 delayed vaccination clusters between Day 10 and Day 31 post-randomization.
Ebola Zaire vaccine live may not protect all vaccinated individuals and does not protect against viruses other than Zaire ebolavirus.
