What is Dexamethasone Tobramycin

Dexamethasone Tobramycin (Tobradex) is an ophthalmic preparation that combines dexamethasone (a corticosteroid) with tobramycin (an aminoglycoside antibiotic).

The combination is used to treat corticosteroid-responsive inflammatory ocular conditions for which a corticosteroid is indicated and where superficial bacterial ocular infection or a risk of bacterial infection exists.

TobraDex ST (tobramycin 0.3%/dexamethasone 0.05%) utilizes a novel suspension technology as compared to TobraDex (tobramycin 0.3%/dexamethasone 0.1%). Tobradex (tobramycin 0.3%/dexamethasone 0.1%) was approved by the FDA in August 1988. Tobradex ST (tobramycin 0.3%/dexamethasone 0.05%) was approved by the FDA in February 2009.
