Which patients with seizures need MRI
Patients with focal features on EEG should have an MRI scan to look for a brain lesion associated with their seizures, particularly when epilepsy surgery is a consideration.
Contrast-enhanced MRI should be performed for patients with new-onset epilepsy to diagnose acute lesions.
Patients with clear-cut primary generalized epilepsy based on EEG and clinical features usually do not require MRI scanning.
