Because cranial nerve XI supplies the SCM and the trapezius, these muscles are weakened. Because the left SCM is involved in turning the head to the right, a lesion of the left cranial nerve XI results in an inability to turn the head to the right.
The left trapezius also loses function, and the patient would not be able to shrug the left shoulder.
