When should an Intracerebral Hemorrhage patient receive a platelet transfusion?
Studies of the effect of prior antiplatelet agent use or platelet dysfunction on ICH hematoma growth and outcome have found conflicting results.
The usefulness of platelet transfusions in ICH patients with a history of antiplatelet use and normal platelet count is unclear and is considered investigational.
For patients with a coagulation factor deficiency and thrombocytopenia (platelet count <100,000), replacement of the appropriate factor or platelets is indicated.
