What is systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS)?
Systemic inflammatory response syndrome refers to the clinical manifestations of systemic inflammation.
The presence of SIRS requires that two or more of the following criteria are met:
- 1. Fever (>38° C) or hypothermia (<36° C)
- 2. Tachycardia (>90 b/min)
- 3. Either tachypnea (>20/min) or a fall in arterial PaCO 2 (<32 mm Hg)
- 4. Either leukocytosis (>12.0 × 10 9 /L) or leukopenia (<4.0 × 10 9 /L) or >10% immature (band) forms
