What are the primary neurologic manifestations of hyperviscosity states?
Hyperviscosity states are conditions in which red blood cells, white blood cells, or serum proteins are increased to a sufficient degree that impedance of blood flow and/or oxygen delivery results.
Neurologic manifestations include symptoms of either
- chronic or acute vertebrobasilar insufficiency (tinnitus, lightheadedness, and headache);
- paresthesias;
- problems with mentation,
- visual/auditory disturbances,
- seizures,
- stroke,
- stupor,
- coma
