The goals of stroke hospitalization are to
(1) prevent complications such as stroke progression, aspiration pneumonia, and pulmonary embolism;
(2) develop a plan for functional recovery with the help of physical, occupational, and speech therapy; and
(3) determine the stroke mechanism in order design an optimal secondary stroke prevention strategy.
