What is the function of the temporal lobe? 

The temporal lobes (both right and left) handle auditory and visual perception, learning and memory, emotional effect, and olfaction.

The dominant temporal lobe influences comprehension of speech (Wernicke’s area).

The nondominant temporal lobe mediates prosody and spatial relationships.
