More patients will die before they reach End Stage Kidney Disease, predominantly of cardiovascular disease.
These competing risks between End Stage Kidney Disease and cardiovascular disease depend on the population of patients studied, with the general finding that older patients with milder Chronic kidney disease are more likely to die of cardiovascular disease, while younger patients with more severe Chronic kidney disease are more likely to progress to End Stage Kidney Disease (ESKD).
Emphasis should be placed on both reducing cardiovascular risk and in slowing the progression of Chronic kidney disease
