The common signs and symptoms of AOSD are shown in the below table .
Notably the presence of odynophagia/pharyngitis with the high fever excludes lymphoma or another neoplastic disease as the cause of the febrile illness. Unusual manifestations include alopecia, mucosal ulcers, subcutaneous nodules, necrotizing lymphadenitis (Kikuchi’s disease), amyotrophy, acute liver failure, abdominal pain due to lymphadenitis, pulmonary fibrosis, pulmonary hypertension (especially in women with dyspnea), cardiac tamponade, aseptic meningitis, peripheral neuropathy, interstitial nephritis, amyloidosis, hemolytic anemia, disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC), thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP) (suspect in patients with schistocytes and thrombocytopenia), orbital pseudotumor, uveitis, sensorineural hearing loss, myositis (10%), and MAS (reactive hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis).
