What is a bronchocele, and what is the “finger-in-glove” sign?
A bronchocele occurs when a dilated bronchus is filled with secretions. When large enough, bronchoceles can appear on imaging as tubular or branching Y- or V-shaped structures, similar in configuration to fingers within a glove. Although characteristic for ABPA, the “finger-in-glove” sign can be seen in cystic fibrosis as well as in any other disorder that causes a bronchocele to form, such as bronchial atresia or an obstructive endobronchial lesion.
