What is bat wing pulmonary edema, and is this the most common radiographic pattern of pulmonary edema?
A “bat wing” pattern (also called a “butterfly” pattern) of pulmonary edema appears as extensive perihilar mid and upper lung zone airspace opacities. This is a less common pattern of pulmonary edema and is seen only 10% to 15% of the time.
