Are HIVICK and HIVAN the most common lesions found in HIV with proteinuria

Are HIVICK and HIVAN the most common lesions found in patients with HIV with proteinuria?

Before the development and widespread use of cART therapy, HIVAN was by far the most common cause of nephrotic syndrome in patients with HIV. However, this pattern has changed dramatically in the cART era.

HIVAN now accounts for only <40% of all cases of nephrotic syndrome, with HIVICK, classic FSGS, and viral hepatitis-induced glomerulopathies accounting for the remaining proportion. A kidney biopsy is usually recommended for patients with HIV with proteinuria, because a kidney lesion other than HIVAN is usually found.
