Is dark chocolate good for rheumatoid arthritis
Chocolate is derived from the fermented, dried, and roasted leaves of the cacao tree, Theobroma cacao. In Central America, it has been traditionally considered to have therapeutic benefits. Cocoa, rich in polyphenols and low molecular weight flavonols, has direct and indirect antioxidant properties. The active extracts of cocoa play a role in downregulating IL-1 and IL-2 while upregulating IL-4, thus playing a regulatory role in innate and acquired immune systems. Again, I tell my patients dark chocolate as a small part of their diet should be fine!
