PrabotulinumtoxinA Brand Name– Jeuveau
What is PrabotulinumtoxinA
PrabotulinumtoxinA is a neuromuscular blocking agent indicated for use in adults to temporarily improve the appearance of moderate to severe glabellar lines associated with the corrugator and/or procerus muscle.
Like other botulinum toxin type A formulations, prabotulinumtoxinA is a toxin produced from fermentation of Clostridium botulinum type A.
However, because potency units are specific to the preparation and assay method utilized, prabotulinumtoxinA is NOT interchangeable with other botulinum toxin products.
PrabotulinumtoxinA is given intramuscularly, and should only be administered by a physician with understanding of the relevant neuromuscular and orbital anatomy of the involved area and any alterations to the anatomy due to prior surgical procedures.
PrabotulinumtoxinA must not be used to treat spasticity or any condition other than glabellar lines, and use of the drug is contraindicated if there is an active infection at the proposed injection site.
The product labeling contains a Black Box Warning regarding the potential for the spread of toxin effects beyond the injection site; which could result in life-threatening adverse effects. These adverse events may occur hours to weeks after the injection.
