Plazomicin

Plazomicin Brand Name– ZEMDRI

What is Plazomicin

Plazomicin is a parenteral aminoglycoside antibiotic indicated for complicated urinary tract infections (cUTI), including pyelonephritis, caused by certain Enterobacteriaceae in adults.

Due to limited safety and efficacy data, reserve plazomicin use for patients who have limited or no alternative treatment options.

Plazomicin is not inhibited by most aminoglycoside-modifying enzymes known to affect gentamicin, amikacin, and tobramycin; therefore, plazomicin may be effective for certain gram-negative infections that are resistant to other aminoglycosides.

Therapeutic drug monitoring with plazomicin trough concentrations is recommended for patients with diminished renal function.

The major adverse reactions associated with plazomicin are due to drug-related nephrotoxicity, ototoxicity, and neuromuscular blockade
