What is Betamethasone Calcipotriene
Betamethasone calcipotriene is a topical combination product indicated for the treatment of plaque psoriasis.
The product is available as an ointment, foam, and suspension. The ointment and foam formulations are approved for use up to 4 weeks to treat psoriasis of the body, whereas the suspension is approved to treat both the body and scalp and can be applied for up to 8 weeks.
This combination product employs a novel vehicle created to obtain optimal stability of both betamethasone dipropionate and calcipotriene in a single formulation; marketed single entity products of betamethasone dipropionate and calcipotriene are not physically compatible when applied to the same site or compounded. T
opical betamethasone (a synthetic corticosteroid) and calcipotriene (a vitamin D analog) have different modes of action in treating psoriasis, and improved efficacy is seen with concurrent use as opposed to monotherapy with either agent.
