What is Benzyl Alcohol
Benzyl alcohol lotion is a topical pediculicide. Benzyl alcohol lotion is used for the treatment of pediculosis capitis (i.e., head lice).
Benzyl alcohol does not have ovicidal activity; therefore, the treatment must be repeated after 7 days. In clinical trials, approximately 75% of subjects were free of live lice 14 days after the second treatment.
Benzyl alcohol lotion was approved by the FDA on April 9, 2009.
