What is Alcaftadine
Alcaftadine is a topical ophthalmic H1-antagonist and an inhibitor of mast cell histamine release.
Alcaftadine is indicated for the prevention of ocular pruritus associated with allergic conjunctivitis.
The ophthalmic product formulation is long-acting, allowing for once daily administration; the eye solution has a pH of approximately 7 and an osmolality of approximately 290 mOsm/kg.
The FDA approved alcaftadine 0.25% ophthalmic solution (Lastacaft) in July 2010.
