Which laparoscopic inguinal hernia repair is preferred: transabdominal preperitoneal (TAPP) hernia repair or totally extraperitoneal (TEP) patch plasty?
- There is no conclusive statistical evidence that one repair is superior to the other. TEP remains outside the abdominal cavity and can be converted to a TAPP easily.
- TAPP has a less stringent learning curve, however. Surgeon experience is one of the most important factors determining choice of procedure.
