What other prognostic tools besides imaging are available for ADPKD?
- • The mutated gene (PKD1 is worse than PKD2)
- • Type of mutation in PKD1 (truncating mutations are worse than nontruncating)
- • Male sex
- • Diagnosis before the age of 30 years
- • First episode of hematuria before age 30 years
- • Onset of hypertension before age 35 years
- • Hyperlipidemia
- • Low high-density lipoprotein
- • Sickle cell trait
Prognostic Model to Predict Survival to ESRD in ADPKD scoring system (PRO-PKD score) (ranging from 0 to 9) has been developed on the basis of PKD mutation and clinical parameters. A score of ≤3 has been shown to exclude progression to ESKD before the age of 60 years, and a score >6 predicts ESKD onset before the age of 60 years. The prognosis is uncertain in patients with an intermediate score (4 to 6 points).
