What MRI findings in the knee are associated with pain?
Bone marrow edema lesions under thinned cartilage correlate with pain. Notably, meniscal degenerative lesions are common but do not correlate with symptoms. This explains why knee arthroscopy to repair meniscal abnormalities rarely improves symptoms unless there are clear mechanical symptoms such as locking.
