What diagnostic tests are only warranted in special circumstances in CPPD?
Tests for rare diseases, such as acromegaly or Wilson’s disease, are only warranted if there are clinical features suggestive of these conditions. Hypothyroidism does not cause CPPD. However, initiation of thyroxine therapy in a hypothyroid patient who has CPPD may precipitate a pseudogout attack; therefore many clinicians order measurement of thyroid-stimulating hormone.
