Through what receptors does dopamine signal?
The dopamine receptors (D1 to D5) are G-protein coupled receptors with distinct functions and neuroanatomical distributions. D1 and D2 are most important in neuropsychiatric disease.
- D1—Gs-mediated increase in intracellular cyclic adenosine monophosphate (AMP) signaling (excitatory)
- D2—Gi-mediated decrease in intracellular cyclic AMP signaling (inhibitory)
