Treatment with either PLEX or IVIG hastens recovery from GBS. The effects of IVIG and PLEX are equivalent.
PLEX is recommended for nonambulant patients within 4 weeks of onset and for ambulant patients within 2 weeks of onset.
IVIG is recommended for patients with GBS who require aid to walk within 2 or 4 weeks from the onset of neuropathic symptoms.
Sequential treatment with PLEX followed by IVIG is not recommended.
