What is the recommended imaging study in a pregnant woman with right lower quadrant pain?
Transabdominal US is the imaging modality of choice for suspected appendicitis in pregnant women. If transabdominal US is negative or equivocal, MRI of the abdomen and pelvis can be obtained for further evaluation. In order to limit fetal exposure to ionizing radiation, US and MRI are preferred over CT.
