Is Multiple Sclerosis all one disease? 

This is not clear.

Clinically, it is quite heterogeneous, and pathologically this heterogeneity may prove true.

New immunopathologic techniques suggest that there may be different patterns of demyelination and immune activation among different patients.

Several distinct pathologic mechanisms may thus underlie the condition we now call Multiple Sclerosis, but this remains to be proven.
