What are the indications for treatment of Pagets Disease of Bone?
Bisphosphonate treatment should be considered for:
• Symptoms (bone pain that corresponds to a site of metabolically active PDB, bony deformity, high-output cardiac failure)
• Those at high risk of developing complications from PDB lesion (e.g., fracture in weight-bearing bones, headaches, nerve compression from involvement of the skull or spine, disease near major joints)
• Prior to orthopedic or elective surgery at or near a pagetic site to reduce hypervascularity and perioperative blood loss
• Hypercalcemia in the setting of immobilization.
