How often should the dose of dialysis be measured

How often should the dose of dialysis be measured?

The National Kidney Foundation’s (NKF) Kidney Outcomes Quality Improvement Initiative (KDOQI) guidelines for hemodialysis adequacy recommend that the dose of dialysis be measured on a monthly basis in patients receiving chronic hemodialysis.

Note that if residual kidney function is being included in calculating the dose of dialysis (see Question 21), then this residual kidney function should be measured every 3 months and any time that an event has occurred that could reduce the patient’s residual kidney function (e.g., contrast load, prolonged hypotension).
