How many views are obtained in a patient with breast augmentation?
At our institution, four routine views (CC and MLO views) and four implant-displacement views are obtained. (At some institutions, an implant-displacement mediolateral view may also be obtained.) On the four routine views, the breast implant is imaged. The glandular tissue is not well compressed on these views. The implant-displacement views are obtained with the implant pushed back so that the breast tissue can be compressed. Usually the presence of the breast implants limits visualization of the posterior breast tissue.
Where can the implants be placed in the breast?
They can be placed in the retropectoral position, behind the pectoralis muscle. Alternatively, they can be placed in the retroglandular position, in front of the pectoralis muscle.
