How is extracorporeal albumin dialysis used in the treatment of AKI HRS?
Albumin dialysis removes albumin-bound substances, such as cytokines and bile acids, which are also systemic vasodilators.
Albumin dialysis can filter out creatinine, and artificially reduces the serum creatinine without changing the GFR. Clinicians can be lured into a false sense of improvement when there is no recovery of kidney function.
There are not enough data to accept it as a standard of care for AKI-HRS.
