How does aldosterone effect kidney potassium excretion?
Aldosterone stimulates sodium reabsorption in the distal nephron through activation of the ENaC and also increases the intracellular potassium concentration by stimulating the Na + -K + -ATPase in the basolateral membrane of these cells. Sodium reabsorption via ENaC increases electronegativity in the lumen, leading to an electrical gradient favoring potassium secretion.
