Treatment of soft tissue injuries with early control of pain and inflammation is critical. Sustained inflammation decreases soft tissue healing and leads to gradual deconditioning and functional disability. With acute problems, relative rest is important. Ice is an effective antiinflammatory in the first hours after an injury. Heat is often preferred after the acute injury. Orthotics, splinting, braces, or taping may be used to facilitate protected motion.
