How are stroke and TIA diagnosed

How are stroke and TIA diagnosed?

Stroke and TIA are diagnosed clinically, and no imaging correlation is required for the acute diagnosis.

Imaging studies are performed to rule out other causes such as tumor and to determine whether there is brain hemorrhage.

Focal neurologic deficits with sudden onset should be considered vascular (e.g., stroke or TIA) until proven otherwise because of the possibility of recurrence or progression of the deficit.
