Complications of Chronic kidney disease are discussed in subsequent chapters and include disorders of fluid and electrolyte balance such as volume overload, hyperkalemia, metabolic acidosis, and hyperphosphatemia.

Other complications are hypertension, anemia, malnutrition, mineral and bone disorders, dyslipidemia, and sexual dysfunction. In more advanced Chronic kidney disease, complications include uremic bleeding, increased susceptibility to infection, pericarditis, uremic neuropathy, thyroid dysfunction, and infection.

Most importantly, Chronic kidney disease is a risk factor for cardiovascular disease.
