Cancers of the brain stem
What other neoplasms affect the brain stem?
Ependymomas occur in the fourth ventricle and may cause obstruction, resulting in intermittent noncommunicating hydrocephalus accompanied by headache and protracted vomiting from involvement of the chemoreceptor trigger zone on the floor of the fourth ventricle.
Metastatic lesions of the brain stem may arise from malignant melanoma or neoplasms of the lung and breast, but are relatively rare.
